Session 1: Transparency and Trust

Friday, April 21, 2023

In Edelman’s 2023 Trust Barometer, companies remained the last institution seen by a majority of Americans as competent and ethical. But that trust is slipping. In the face of economic anxiety and the job insecurity created by waves of layoffs, many workers are experiencing a crisis of confidence with their employer. But there’s a new angle for companies to re-engage and rebuild trust with employees: being transparent about pay. It’s the modern showcase of what your organization values and how you reward employees for their contributions.

So how do you actually get a pay transparency initiative off the ground? This panel provided a behind-the-scenes look at how Total Rewards/Compensation and legal leaders at some of the world’s biggest companies embarked on their pay transparency journeys. Attendees heard practical advice and lessons learned directly from pay transparency champions about:

- The “entry point” moments they leveraged to achieve buy-in
- The toughest questions they faced when they first shared pay information internally and externally
- Their keys to success and what they would do differently if given a second chance
- The aftermath of going public and how it impacted talent acquisition
